Coronavirus: How to Handle Life, Health & Business by Enterprise Fitness

Tuesday Apr 28, 2020

Soy is the poster child for pseudo health foods. High in protein, low in saturated fat and supposedly has the ability to feed the world. What health conscious, eco-activist wouldn’t want soy on their plate?
An educated one.
For a decade, I’ve been warning people on the dangers of soy. Recently I was putting together a chapter on Soy for my new book when I found myself continuing to refer to the seminal text on soy, The Whole Soy Story, by Kaayla Daniel.
Kaayla published this book in 2005, and now 15 years on, the book and her work is still referred to when anyone in the know enters a conversation about Soy. I consider her to be the industries leading authority on the topic and she’s been on my ‘hit-list’ to interview since 2010.
So 10 years on, finally, I bring to you a conversation with Kaayla Daniel, author of The Whole Soy Story, The Dark Side of America’s Favourite Health Food.
In this interview we cover:
Thoughts on COVID19
The Fermented Cod Liver Oil fiasco
Her falling out with the Weston Price Foundation
Problems with Soy
High Phytoestrogens/Isoflavones
Phytic acid (affects mineral absorption)
Mould (from storage of mass produced soy)
Genetically Modified
Glyphosate
Industrial farmed which practices are bad for the environment

Enterprise Power Session - April 4th 2020

Wednesday Mar 25, 2020

Hypnotherapist Forest Toime talks to Wolf’s Den host, Mark Ottobre at Enterprise Fitness on emotional eating, bingeing and food related behaviours. They discuss the cause behind comfort eating and how to resolve diet related issues by working through significant emotional experiences from the past, especially during childhood.
You will learn about comfort food and exactly what the pizza, chocolate and ice cream are; emotional coping mechanisms, because food makes everything better, right?
Although these scenarios are so common, it doesn’t mean it’s a healthy habit.
You’re self sabotaging your health and body composition through emotionally eating behaviours. These habits tend to be covering up a deeper issue, most likely stemming from past experiences.
Watch the full episode to uncover why you continue to yo-yo in and out of diets, and why you end up binge eating every week.

Wolf's Den S2 E4: Dad Bod 2.0 by Enterprise Fitness

Thursday Aug 29, 2019

I’ve been doing this a while. Putting out content, making videos, blogging and vibing with our audience.
Over the years there’s always been this ‘one topic’ that I wanted to discuss that I could never bring myself to do… It’s the S word in Fitness…
Steroids.
Then one day, Dr. Mathew Dunn, senior lecturer at Deakin University walked through the doors of Enterprise Fitness. His focus of research for the past 15 years; performance enhancing drugs and the S word.
So I asked Matt if he would join me for an episode of the Wolf’s Den where we dive deep into the world of drugs, discussing everything from doping in professional sport, decriminalising drugs and of course, steroids.
Full disclosure:
I’ve never taken steroids or any performance enhancing drugs. In my 20’s, training at meat-head gyms, I saw many young guys double in size within weeks of getting on the juice. I was tempted however, I made a deal with myself; I would only ever seriously contemplate using when I was 30, after at least 10-15 years of training hard and eating well. At the time I figured, I wasn’t in a rush and didn’t know enough about training to make full use of them (and looking back, I was 100% right).
Over that period I saw many guys struggle getting off, from getting their testosterone back, to struggling to deal with how they looked and felt post cycle. Going from raging testosterone to that of a 3 year old girl wasn’t as fun as it seemed long term.
It put me off.
But regardless, when I turned 30, I still gave myself the option and made another deal with myself; no considering steroids until my baby making was done. One of the known side effects of steroids is shooting blanks.
Now with two kids- and well into my 30’s, I have absolutely no desire to start a cycle. Frankly, at this stage of life, the potential consequences outweigh the benefits. I train to keep strong, healthy and lean- I don’t need them to achieve my goals. I’m content with incremental progress and not being a 100 kilo monster at 5% body-fat.
I say all this because when it comes to this topic, very few in the fitness industry are willing to have an adult conversation, and that’s exactly what Dr. Dunn and I do in this episode of the Wolf’s Den.
We don’t shame people who might have dabbled in performance enhancing drugs, or even try to sway your thinking, we simply discuss what the research shows, and if you do intend to use, the health and mental considerations you should plan for (AKA. Start by speaking to your doctor).
This conversation is intended to be an open, honest, and intellectual discussion about drugs, steroids and performance enhancers. One I think you’d find interesting and offer a new perspective based in academic research.
Shout out to Dr. Dunn who does an amazing job navigating this minefield of a topic.
